Rising up, back on the streetDid my time, took my chancesWent the distance, now I'm back on my feetJust a man and his will to survive
The 1982 rock anthem written for Rocky III is broadly charting again today, appearing on 141 country and platform charts after a three-week absence. Sylvester Stallone personally requested the track from the band and built it into the film, a placement that, per Amazon, transformed a moderately successful melodic hard-rock outfit into spotlight-grade peers of Journey and Foreigner. Its title came from a line of Apollo Creed dialogue, Wikipedia notes. The song's afterlife is its own genre: a 2015 Frosted Flakes spot built around Tony the Tiger, a Paul Anka swing cover, and a recurring sync wherever a montage needs determination turned into rhythm, per Songfacts. It remains the default soundtrack for comeback stories and workouts worldwide.
