A 55-year-old instrumental from Santana's Abraxas has returned to broad presence across the global charts, tracked across 96 country and platform charts after a nearly two-month absence. Carlos Santana wrote the piece after watching a jazz saxophonist busk outside his apartment, and he later told Mojo it was the first recording where he heard his own identity rather than the influence of B.B. King or Peter Green — his "tone, my fingerprints, my uniqueness." The track's slow-burn structure, moving from sensual restraint to a full-throated melodic peak, has made it durable across generations of guitar players and cover artists; José Feliciano even added lyrics to it. It carries a long placement history, from a 1996 Fan sync to a 2009 Cold Case closing scene. Among Santana's catalog, it remains the most personal thing he recorded.
