The 1980s are back on the pop charts, and Madonna is leading the revival. Following the No. 1 debut of Confessions II — which sold 114,000 copies in its first week despite modest streaming, according to NPR — her back catalog has surged alongside it, and Vogue is broadly present across 21 country and platform charts today. The house-inflected 1990 single, produced by Shep Pettibone and directed as a David Fincher video, distilled New York ball culture into a global pop event; Vogue called it that year's best-selling single. Its afterlife runs deep in screen culture — the FX series Pose featured it across two episodes, per Screen Rant, and it bookended her Super Bowl XLVI halftime show in 2012. A new album, it turns out, resurrects the old ones.
