A spare, slow-burning cut from the band's hastily recorded Saint Cecilia EP is broadly charting today, appearing on 227 country and platform charts and running well above its recent baseline. Iron Rooster sits apart from the Foo Fighters' arena-rock reputation — built around a creaking acoustic figure and one of Dave Grohl's most restrained vocals, its chorus likening the narrator to an "irregular sculpture / held against my will." Released free in late 2015 as a gesture after the band's tour was cut short, the EP was a deliberate palate-cleanser rather than a single push, which has left tracks like this one as deep-catalog discoveries. It remains one of the quietest entries in a discography defined by volume.
