Bart Howard's 1954 standard, in Doris Day's orchestral reading with arranger Mort Garson, is broadly charting across 138 country and platform charts today following a 16-day absence. Day's take is one of dozens of recorded versions — the song's catalog ranges from Kaye Ballard's 1954 original through Frank Sinatra's 1964 recording, which became closely associated with the Apollo missions — but her phrasing here sits on the warmer, more intimate end of the standard's spectrum, Garson's strings leaning melodic rather than swinging. Day, who died in 2019, recorded extensively with Garson; their Latin for Lovers collaboration, on which Garson also arranged and conducted, showed the same instinct for uncluttered delivery over lush orchestration. The re-entry lands as the standard turns 72 this year.
